Architecture and interior design firm Studio Prineas has designed the remodel and restoration of an Australian Federation home, which also included a modern extension.
The original home features a brick façade with a covered front porch.
The rear of the home showcases a brand new addition that showcases a minimalist form clad in blackened timber, while recycled red brick helps tie the addition to the original home.
A sliding glass wall opens the interior spaces to a greyed Blackbutt deck with an outdoor kitchen that steps down to the yard, as well as a swimming pool.
An additional glass wall in the living room of the new addition provides views of the pool, while the opposite wall opens to a small courtyard with water-wise Australian native plants.
The living room, which is open to the dining area and kitchen, also includes a fireplace with a brick surround and custom wood cabinets.
The adjacent kitchen has a simple color palette with matte black cabinets that are made from Paperock, a sustainable building material combining condensed layers of renewable paper bonded with resin. Grey marble, black hardware, and a minimalist horizontal light fixture complete the look.
Wood floors can be found throughout the home, while white walls draw focus to era-defining hallmarks like ornate pressed-tin ceilings and cast-iron fireplaces, both of which can be seen in a casual living room.
A cast-iron fireplace can also be seen in one of the bedrooms that has been updated, while modern furnishings bring the bedroom up to today’s standards.
The bathroom has a simple white design with black accents. There are small white square tiles covering the walls and floor, a built-in bathtub, and a mirror with a recessed black shelf below. In addition to the window above the bath, there’s also a skylight to add natural light to the space.
The powder room also includes the small square tiles, however a gray stone vanity and black mirror frame add a contrasting element, and a brass light fixture adds a metallic accent.
