Garden Views Are The Focus Of This Farmhouse-Inspired Home

Photography by Jeremy Bitterman

Architecture firm Olson Kundig has designed the ‘Country Garden House’ in Portland, Oregon, for a master gardener.

The house, which is reminiscent of a farm structure, is clad in reclaimed barnwood, and has a pitched roof with high windows at each end of the main volume that flood the home with light. A green roof helps to create an emphasis on integrating the house into its natural surroundings.

Gardens designed in collaboration with notable plantsman Dan Hinkley are visible from every room, and window walls in the living area allow the gardens to become a part of the home.
